boston | august 2014

waterfront_iphone_edit_webLucky me…….I was able to escape Florida for a week – in August – and was rewarded with beautiful New England weather. It would have just been a really mean joke had there been a heat wave in Boston!! Wining and dining takes top priority when I’m up there (big surprise there) and in addition to the usual suspects such as 3 and Ichigo Ichie, I was wildly delighted to (finally) make it back to Trade in downtown Boston to shoot my favorite bartender’s clever cocktails.  Congrats to Tenzin Conechok Samdo for making Zagat’s very short list of the nine up-and-coming bartenders you need to know in Boston  – you can see the article HERE.  To see more about my visit to Trade – and to get a couple of Tenzin’s cocktail recipes, please head over to my food blog Kitchen Serendipity.  (You can also follow him on Instagram at @bostonmixdrink.)Trade_drinks_blog_board

After Trade, we walked over to Row 34 to continue the afternoon (well, venturing into the evening…).  I am a huge fan of oysters, and I love this restaurant which is the sibling of Island Creek Oyster Bar and is situated in the industrial Fort Point neighborhood.  If you want the best oysters and a hip, energizing environment, this is the place.  It was just listed as one of the four Boston restaurants on Bon Appetit’s 2014 50 nominees list for best restaurants in America.  Well done!  Article is HERE.row_34_blog_board_1IMG_8963_edit_webrow_34_blog_board_2

I’m sure this is the second time I’ve been compelled to order the Old Bay Onion Rings. row_34_kitchen_blog_board

And did I mention the oysters? oysters_blog_board

Later in the week we headed to Cape Cod for some birthday celebrations AND to see Gregg Allman in concert at the Melody Tent in Hyannis….but first was a stop at Trevi in the Mashpee Commons for lunch upon arrival.  Great place!  Terrific wine list and lunch selection.  I was pretty over the moon to have a nice, chilled bowl of my absolute favorite soup – vichyssoise.trevi_blog_board

Friday night was the concert…..Lafe and I started out at The Paddock for dinner and drinks before the venue.  The place filled up quickly with most patrons going to the concert.the_paddock_blog_board

The concert was fabulous – one great disappointment was never having the chance to see the Allman Brothers in concert before their plans to disband……but this was exactly what I think seeing them in concert would have been like.  He played lots of favorites…..Statesboro Blues, Melissa, One Way Out, Midnight Rider, and Whipping Post.Greg_Allman_blog_board

So now I’m wondering why I always need a vacation from my vacation?!?  Until next time………
